Q. What can I expect during a typical Sunday Worship Service?
A. Our services feature a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary worship music, a children's time, an interactive Bible based message, and prayers for our Community. Worship is a community celebration of what God is doing, or can do, in our lives. We gather in God's presence to celebrate the good times and find support for the difficult ones. Sunday messages are Christ centered with the goal of "good news you can use"- we unpack the ancient mysteries of faith in our present context.
Q. Is there a dress code?
A, At St. John's, we embody a come as you are approach to our dress code. It means more to use that you have come to viist, than what you wear when you walk in the door.
Q. Where is St. John's located and where can I park?
A. St. John's has worship and office space within the Trinity United Church building at 100 Main St. West in Grimsby. On a Sunday morning, you can park in the upper parking lot near Memory Hall. If you need accessible parking, the lower lot is your best option, as the elevator can be reached through the main doors of the building. Come early as parking spaces are limited.
Q. Are there programs for Children and Youth?
A. We strive to be a blessing to children and their families. On Sunday mornings, St. John's and Trinity United Churches provide a combined Sunday School program. The Godly Play program is best suited for children from Kindergarten through Grade 6. One Sunday afternoon per month, we hold an intergenerational gathering for families. These gatherings include a story, craft, games, a meal and a social time. This is a great way to meet other families in Grimsby. The St. John's congregation is like a family. Children, their parent and grand parents are a source of joy for our church.
Q. What supports are there for Seniors?
A. Supporting Seniors is important to us. Each Friday at 10:30am seniors are invited to Chair Chat, held in the Fellowship Room. This is a caring group that shares their life stories, looks at present day issues through a scriptural lens, and provides mutual support and encouragement to participants. Our Seniors Ministry Coordinator, Rev. Maria Lallouet, also plans special seniors' outings, information sessions about seniors issues, and leads worship services at a local retirement home. Seniors matter at St. John's.
Q. How can I get involved at St. John's?
A. There is a place for everyone to contribute at St. John's. You can contribute to our Seniors Group events by attending and taking part in the conversation. Support our family outreach by bringing your children or grandchildren and joining in our fun and learning. There are opportunities to help out either "up front" or "behind the scenes". Contribute to our worship services by reading a scripture, sharing your musical talent, or share your warmest smile and greet people as they come in.
